The White Umbrella by Mary Frances Bowley

From the back cover of The White Umbrella:

Sex trafficking. We hear about it on the nightly news and in special interest stories from around the world, but it occurs daily in communities all around us. Every year, thousands of young women are forced into sexual exploitation. Most are under the age of 18. The damage this causes to their emotions and souls is immeasurable, but they are not without hope.

The White Umbrella tells stories of survivors as well as those who came alongside to help them to recovery. It describes the pain and the strength of these young women and those who held the “white umbrella” of protection and purity over them on the road to restoration.

This book offers principles and guidance to anyone with a heart for these hurting young women and a desire to help. It is an ideal resource for individuals or organizations seeking to learn what they can do to assist these victims in becoming whole again.

My thoughts:

This is a non-fiction book. As someone who is involved with survivors who have been trafficked and/or abused I really liked this book as a way to inform people about the need to for help and to share the hope that is being offered to many young women. I think anyone would benefit from reading this book. I don’t think you can read this book and not be moved to do something to help.

Mary Frances Bowley runs Wellspring Living, a ministry that helps girls that have either chosen to leave the trafficking life or were forced to leave.

The book is full of stories from people who work with Wellspring Ministry or from the girls who have been through, or are going through, the program. This book offers hope and gives you ways you can help too.

All profits from The White Umbrella will go to Wellspring Living. So you if want to help right now order your copy here and make a difference in a young woman’s life.

If you live in Michigan or Ohio and want to get involved in a ministry closer to home you can check out The Daughter Project, located in Ohio.

I am passing along my copy of The White Umbrella to one commentator. Leave a comment by March 3rd at 5:00 PM to be entered to win.

I was given a copy of this book from Moody Publishers in exchange for an honest review.

About Melissa Finnegan

First Chronicles 16: 24 says:Publish his glorious deeds among the nations. Tell everyone about the amazing things he does. That is my desire, to write about the great things God has done in my life. He has taken the things in my life that were meant to harm me and now is using them for His glory so many can be saved. That is the point of Genesis 50:20. That is my life verse, the verse that God has used in my marriage. Patrick (my husband) and I want to share what God has done in our lives with everyone. I want to live that truth out and let God's glory shine. He wastes nothing. Everyone has a Genesis 50:20, it's time we start sharing our stories with the world.

  1. I am thankful that we are having more organizations start to try to rescue and help these girls. Some are taken as young as 6 years old, and have a horrible life. I always think of this when I see or hear of missing young girls and pray it won’t happen to them. What horrors they go through. And some don’t survive. I read a book by Kathi Macias “Deliver Me From Evil’ that really brought it to a higher level for me. I recommend it to everyone. She also works with groups like this. GOD bless you all. I would like to win this book, then I could share it with others. Maxie mac262(at0me(dot)com
