Genesis 5020

Stories for His Glory

Loved-Part 10 January 25, 2013

This is my 100th post!!!!!!

Can you believe it? God has been so good since the beginning of this blog a year ago (January 27th was my first post).

To celebrate my 100th post I have a big giveaway for you. At the end of this post you will see all that I am giving away.

Heather’s Genesis 5020:

heart-of-love-1328441023DAUIn July 2011, I was promoted to Assistant Manager for the group home I was working in. I had been working midnights up until that point and it was wearing on me terribly.

With this new position, I’m able to work first and second shift. That was a direct answer to prayer.

Again, God’s plan was playing out for me.

It amazes me that even now when I go to work I get this feeling that I am right where He wants me to be. I love working with people with disabilities, they are so special to me and I know they are very special to God.
In the spring of 2012, my church made an announcement that a group would be starting up called Wounded Heart. It was for women who had been abused and who were looking for healing from their brokenness.

I heard God whisper to me to join this group, so I did. My sister was one of the leaders so that made it a little easier.

Through wounded heart, I uncovered so many hurts that I didn’t even realize I had but by uncovering them and sitting in my pain, I was able to work through a lot of my issues and begin to heal. Notice I didn’t say I am healed, I am in the process, still.

After Wounded Heart was over, I was able to free myself from John. I was able to forgive him and pray for him.

I’ve stopped living in fear of him and worrying that he’s going to find me. I’m trusting the God who saves me to protect me from him.

Also after Wounded Heart, I heard God whispering to me again. This time he was telling me to be baptized.

I’ve always been a kind of shy person who hates being in front of a crowd so being baptized never sounded appealing to me because of that. But I clearly heard God on this so I knew I had to obey.

On June 17, 2012, I was baptized. I was so nervous.

I knew I was doing the right thing but I had to give a brief video testimony about why I wanted to be baptized and I had to do it in front of all those people at church.

My brother-in-law is an elder at our church so he did the baptisms. He can tell you first hand, I was trembling when I went under the water.

I was excited to be celebrating my commitment to Christ but it was also a funeral, a burial of the woman I used to be.

I was happy to let go of my old self but really committing to my new life in Christ was a little scary for me, in a good way. My parents were there and so were some of the ladies from my Wounded Heart group.

I felt so much love that day.

I titled this post Loved for two reasons.

1) Heather was only beginning to feel and understand the weight of Christs love.

2) You are all loved dearly. I thank God for readers like you who have stuck by Patrick and I this past year and supported this blog.

To say thank you I am giving away seven books, some paperback, some hardback.

The Scarlet Thread by Francine Rivers (has been read once, you can see in the binding)

A Wedding Transpires on Mackinac Islandby Cara Putman

Wildflowers from Winter by Katie Ganshert

Veil of Pearls by Marylu Tyndall ( has been read, the corners of the cover are slightly worn, nothing major)

The Circle Maker by Mark Batterson

What to do When the Roof Caves In by Marilyn Meberg

Just Walk Across the Room by Bill Hybels

I also will throw in one of those ruffled knitted scarves that are so popular at craft shows. I saw them and thought, “I can make that.” So I did.

As a special thank you to my subscribers, if you leave a comment your name will be entered twice. That goes for anyone who scribes today too 🙂

But you don’t have to subscribe to enter, I just want to do something special for those who do.

******* To enter leave a comment about something God has done in your life over the last year, or leave a prayer request, I would be honored to pray for you. Do this by January 31st at 5:00 pm to be entered. ********

Congratulations on your 100th post! This past year I have been blessed by so many things but most importantly my family has grown closer together. I would love to be entered in your giveaway and I am an email subscriber to your blog.

    • Katie, family is so important. God keeps showing me that although my family is unique, they are his children and I just need to shine His love into their lives. I do pray that my family will grow closer as well.

I too wish to say Congrats on your 100th post. I’ve read your posts about your issues and cried through them all. Many times I started to comment but didn’t. I felt your pain, I felt your husband’s pain. We all have hurts and issues. Your blog posts really do help I want you to know that. I’ve read all the postings about your sister too. I find I can’t wait to see how God miraculously changes her life as we know he can and will. Tears have fallen reading about her too.

I would like to leave a prayer request. Please pray if it is God’s will, He will send conviction on a family members heart. She has spread some horrible lies about me. (I don’t have a clue to what she has told other family members.) How do I know they were horrible. I had a step-brother who has disowned me and called me a piece of ____, on FB. His wife called me a drama queen and they would pay me back. I am at a loss to what I have done or said. This has caused a big dissention in our family and until she comes forth with the truth there is nothing I can do but pray. It is in God’s hands. I try not to dwell on it too much but to let God work in this situation.

Thank you for your prayers. Please keep posting, your blog is read!

    I follow you by email.

    • Thank you for your kind words. There have been many times through this last year that I have asked God, “Why would people want to read about me?” But He gently reminds me to do it for His glory, He will take care of the rest. He has been so good in growing my readership from only 15 after my first post to 81 a year later. Just keep doing what God wants you to, you can’t go wrong. I am so sorry to hear about what is doing on with your family. Family can be tough, I know. But I also know God redeems all things. You said all you can do it pray and the truth is all you NEED to do is pray. I will join you in this effort. I’ll be praying for a Genesis 5020 from this!

Congrats on your 100th post! This year God has done a lot but the best of all is keeping my wonderful husband’s lymphoma in remission. Praise God!

  4. congrats on your 100th post, Melissa! You don’t have to enter me, but I wanted to say that, and also, Veil of Pearls was awesome. It’s worth entering just for that, let alone all of these other wonderful books!

  5. Congrats on your 100th post! God has done a lot since this time last year. The main thing that comes to mind is this last summer when I realized that God does love me. Really loves me. It is His nature to love and He can never function contrary to His nature. It was crazy but in that moment when I read that statement I actually believed it! I wanted to tell everyone I knew that God was love and He loved them no matter what. I ended up sending out e-mails to people I normally would not have talked to and I made phone calls to two people who were still not talking to me because of hurt and distrust that I had caused from lying. That was a huge turning point in my faith and my life.

    • Heather, I have loved hearing you story over the last year and watching God work in your life. It has been truly amazing. God has even more to show you so keep your eyes and heart open to Him.

Congratulations on your 100th post. I love seeing how God works in peoples lives and I’ve been blessed by many of the stories you’ve shared. I’m so glad you found a group to help deal with the hurts of your past – it took years for me to find the help I needed to survive the abuse I received as a child. I am glad you were able to forgive and move on. For me, forgiveness was the first step to healing. It took years before I realized that God was not the one who caused my abuse and it took years and a lot of healing to see where God was in the midst of the abuse. I was so surprised at some of the things He showed me about where He was. He had to wait until I healed before He could reveal them – sometimes God is in the “Nots” what did not happen. I am looking forward to your next 100 posts 🙂

    • Thanks Heather. I have read a bit of your story on your blog and can’t imagine the pain you went through. I am so glad you have allowed God to heal you. I am sure He has so many more treasure to reveal to you.

Congrats on the 100th post! I have been really, not sure if enjoying is the right word, Melissa’s story over the last few weeks. Thanks to you both for sharing it!

Something God has done in my life in the last year? One thing I can think of relates to my health. I have a pituitary tumor that hadn’t been checked in 4 years. I had been worried that it might have grown but in December I had to have an MRI and the doctor called back saying that it hadn’t. I was so relieved! With God’s help I try to take life one day at a time and not worry as much.

    I am a Subscriber through Email 🙂

Yay, Melissa! So happy for you on the amazing blogging journey God has you on–thrilled to be a part and watch His love story with you! You are a blessing! I have been blessed by your story and Heather’s and I believe this blog is a place of healing, in that it points to the Healer in all things! Love ya! Great giveaway–and I know you know I’m a subscriber;)

    • Thanks Alaina and thanks for sharing your story on this blog as well, I know it touched many lives and Hope’s story will continue to touch lives. You are an amazing friend. I thank God for you. Love ya!

  14. Thank you for this opportunity. This past year God has shown multiple times that He is right here with us – through financial blessings, the encouraging words of friends or directly from His Word, and so much more. In addition, please continue to pray with us for the complete healing of my husband. He has been sick for six years this February and I am confident God will heal him fully, but the power of prayer is great.

    in Him,

    Cheri Swalwell

  15. Congratulations, Melissa. This is quite an accomplishment. It’s wonderful
to have a place where we can share with each other, and request prayers.
Continue with your outreach and needed ministry online, Melissa, so many
    of us enjoy it.

I do have a prayer request. With two of our grown children across oceans…
I would ask that you remember our son and his wife who are on the mission field in Sochi, Russia. AND, our daughter and son and her hubby are now in
Shanghai, China, on a three year work assignment. They seem to be adjusting well, and live in a safe area. But our three grand-gals are also there. It makes it rough on Grandma, especially, with the kids so far away. Our oldest son is thankfully a few states away from us. Prayers are so important and we do cherish and appreciate those who remember them. Thank you. 🙂

    • Diane, I can only imagine how hard it would be to be so far from you children and grandchildren. What a blessing though to have children who have devoted themselves to the Lord. I will life your children and grandchildren up in prayer.

  16. Chaplain Debbie Says:

Congrats on your 100th post! This is my first time here and I am very happy to meet you. This past year has been quite a struggle for my husband and I . He lost his job, then he had a small stroke. We have had to rely on our son to take care of us financially. But, through hard work and not giving up on God, my husband has completely recovered from his stroke and just last month, he found a job. Our struggles have brought us closer to God and I know that He is going to continue to bless us from now on…
Thank you for this opportunity to win, I am an avid reader. The books listed sound very good. I already own Veil of Pearls and it is fantastic! But, I would love to read the rest of them as well.
    God bless,

    • Thanks for stopping by Debbie. Praise God that he healed your husband and brought him a job, not an easy thing to find these days. I am sure God has blessed your faithfulness to Him.

  17. KayM Says:

Melissa, I am a new follower (RSS). I’ve only been reading your blog for a few weeks, but congratulations on your 100th post. I’ve recently begun a blog, myself, so I know what an accomplishment that is! Since I don’t really know your story, I will have to go back and read some older posts from your archive. I started reading your blog because of the name.

God has been very close to me in 2012. He sent me on a quest that included leaving a wonderful congregation, where I was loved, admired, and accepted. It’s been very difficult to leave so many friends behind, but in doing so, I have become much closer to my very best Friend. I believe that was part of the divine plan. I have struggled on my new journey, but I know His plans for me are good (Jeremiah 29:11).

    • Kay, I just looked at your blog. I know God will use your pain to help others who go through the same thing, you will have a Genesis 5020. He is faithful, which I am sure you already. Be blessed my friend. I will pray God’s blessing in this journey you are taking.

  18. Hello Melissa, I am new to your blog, and I like it. I just became a follower. I hear congratulations are in order. Happy for you. I have been blessed so many times through my life. First time, being born into a Christian family with so much love, and 6 siblings, getting another brother when I was 6. And, so very important, becoming a Christian. My baby brother has had skin cancer for many years now. Well, he had a big lump that was oozing, on his face near his left temple. It turned out to be cancer. DR. said not the best one, but not the worst one either. He had to have surgery, then when back in 2 weeks, was told there were still cancer cells in the biopsy, so went in again. This time was good news. But I know he was nervous, as we have lost several siblings with cancer. Please pray it is GOD’s will not to return. Also, my great-grandbaby just had surgery Thur. to repair a bad clef lip. She did well, and I praise GOD for that. She will have to have surgery again later to repair her clef-pallet. Please keep both of these in your prayers. God has answered now for what I asked. He has helped me make it through another year with my health problems and to make it fine finaceally Keep up the good work. Maxie
