About the Author

Linore Rose Burkard is a serious watcher of period films, a Janeite, and hopeless romantic. An award winning author best known for Inspirational Regency Romance, her first book opened the genre for the CBA. Besides historical romance, Linore writes contemporary suspense (The Pulse Effex Series, as L.R. Burkard), contemporary romance (Falling In), and romantic short stories. Linore has a magna cum laude English Lit. degree from CUNY which she earned while taking herself far too seriously. Miss Tavistock experiences a frightening crush at the Prince Regent’s palace (Carlton House) toward the end of the book which leads to a romantically pivotal scene. But many readers don’t know that what happened that day at the palace really happened.Here’s the scoop:    The fete in June of 1811 was the Prince of Wales’ first real chance to celebrate his becoming Regent in February of that year in the lavish style he loved.    Like Miss Tavistock, many in the haut ton anxiously coveted invitations. At first reserved only for the peerage and their offspring, by the time of the event, more than 2,000 invitations had been issued to all classes. The details in the story regarding the enormous preparations really happened, and much, much, more.    Since our heroine was not able to garnish an invitation to the actual grand banquet, the extraordinary magnificence of the décor, food, and costume of that night had to be excluded from the book. But it was an unprecedented display, and both amazed and perplexed the guests.     The prince was so happy with his lavish spectacle that he wished to share it with the public. The unruly crowd described in the book happened on the third day following the banquet. It was reported that more than 30,000 people tried to crowd their way in that day. Men and women lost hats, bonnets, coats, shawls, shoes, and even their under clothing. London papers afterwards claimed there were great tubs at Carlton House filled with all the lost items.  Our beleaguered heroine escapes with only her shoes and bonnet missing, but her stockings and gown are torn. Perfect situation to be rescued from!    Contemporaries both praised and harshly criticized the affair. It was described as “an assemblage of beauty, splendor and profuse magnificence,” by admirers, but as  one of the princes’ “greatest follies and extravagances,” by detractors.³If you’re not previously familiar with the Prince Regent (later George IV), this might give you an idea as to why I sometimes find him too irresistible a figure to leave out of a Regency novel. His extravagance, flamboyance and tempestuous lifestyle are just too ripe  fodder to ignore. Though he doesn’t appear in Miss Tavistock, I have numerous scenes in my first Regency series where he interacts with Phillip Mornay, ‘the Paragon,’ and hero of the books.NOTE: This post is an abbreviated account of the event, which is included in more detail at the back of the book.Question: Have you ever been trapped in a crowd? My thoughts:

This was a great read. Although I was very frustrated with Miss Tavistock. I just wanted her to tell Gabriel what was going on. She had many opportunities, sometimes it did seem a bit unrealistic but I let it slide and enjoyed the overall story.

Mrs. Filbert is a wonderful character as well and I appreciated her presence and guidance with Miss Tavistock.

I loved how in the end everything played out. It made it a fun read. I am anxious to read more in this series and can’t wait to read the next book.

My thoughts:

If you like spooky stories you really must read Jaime’s work. She has an amazing way of making something seem supernatural but when it comes down to it there is an explanation for what is happening.

This book is another one I couldn’t put down. The mystery behind the Watchman and what was happening in the present make this book a page turner. I don’t know how Jaime comes up with her storylines but I always find them very interesting.

My thoughts:

There are books that open and begin reading and somehow you know. It’s like meeting that person you will marry. You know this book is going to be a good one. You know you will love the characters, you know your heart will probably ache and you might cry.

This was one of those books. Within five pages I knew I had devour this book.

What a unique storyline and so many questions. The set up is unique as well. As Ivy is trying to learn about her past the readers is reading about it and we know more then she does.

I really can’t recommend this book enough. I can’t wait to pass it on. I’m not sure if this is Amada’s debut novel, but I will definitely be picking up whatever she puts out next.

The Elusive Electrical Spark to Awaken Frankenstein’s Monster

The plot of Pretending to Wed just wasn’t coming together for me. I had the romantic dilemma, but I didn’t love the characters. They were boring. And if I’m going to write a book, a.k.a. read it a bazillion times, I have to really want to read the book myself. I decided to take a break from the weeks of struggle and read. I was recommended a book because of the author’s great voice (I can’t recommend it because it’s not a clean novel), but I loved the fact that the heroine was a scientific illustrator. I wondered if I could give my heroine a scientific hobby and came up with inventing. That single character tidbit was the jolt that awakened Frankenstein’s Monster. She came alive! The research into what she could have patented at the time led my imagination to the egg hatching romance scene in the middle of the story and I was hooked! I couldn’t wait to read my book that didn’t yet exist.

My thoughts:

I always enjoy Melissa’s books and this one is a great addition to her work. One thing I notice about her writing is that often her characters have a physical flaw, as well as an internal/spiritual wound. This is nice to read because often characters are perfect and us readers are far from it.

I really liked Corrine and I felt her doubts and her pain at her rejections before Nolan came into her life. I so wanted her to open her heart to him. And I have to say I loved their first kiss until it was over and the doubts started overwhelming the two of them.

There were a lot of things that could go wrong in this book and misunderstandings that were just waiting to be exposed. This definitely made the book a page turner for me.

Take a moment to travel back to an era when ordinary women did extraordinary things. After the attack at Pearl Harbor, stalwart American gals stepped out of their comfort zone to take jobs never before held by women…sometimes dangerous jobs. Jobs in which they could lose their lives.

As a docent at the Wright Museum of WWII, I meet people from all walks of life who lived and served during the second “war to end all wars.” Many of these people haven’t shared their stories with loved ones for myriad reasons, but when they arrive at the museum, the floodgates of memories open, and words begin to pour out.

I’ve listened as ladies shared the stress of working outside the home, and juggling finances and childcare issues while their husbands were away in the armed forces. I’ve heard some speak about the excitement of learning new skills and gaining confidence. However, others were not as forthcoming because what they did was not only perilous, but secret. Fortunately, in the last few years, documents been declassified to shed light on the undercover work and projects performed during the war.

It is my hope that Spies & Sweethearts, book one in my Sisters in Service trilogy, will honor these brave women in some small way.

My Thoughts:

I really enjoy Linda’s writing. I have read many of her books and they are usually pretty short and can be read quickly. This one was a bit longer, but still a quick read. And I am a fan of WWII fiction so that is always a bonus.

Emily and Gerard’s relationship is complicated for sure. As much as they try to fight their attraction they keep finding themselves together and more and more drawn to each other.

I loved Gerard’s faith journey as well. He is a doubter but as time and circumstance change so does his faith.

My thoughts:

I don’t even know how I discovered Allie but I found her podcast and was very excited to here a Christian conservative’s perspective on politics and things going on in this world. If you haven’t listen to her podcast Relatable you are missing out. It was through her podcast the my eyes were open to some false teaching I was believing. I ignored her for a long time and was offended by the things she shared but God soften my heart to hear and receive what she was saying.

Anyway, this book is sooooo needed. In Christina circles we often hear, “You are enough.” I have uttered those phrases myself to encourage woman. But now I see the lie for what it is. I’m not enough, if I was I wouldn’t need Jesus, which is exactly what the world wants you to believe. You don’t need Jesus. If that is true why are constantly looking for the next thing to make us feel better about ourselves?

This book is marked up with my underlining, so many good things I could share but honestly, you really just need to read the book. I am passing this on to my daughter because her generation is being fed these lies even more then mine. The solution to our problems can’t be found within ourselves, we are the problem. Jesus is the solution!!

My Thoughts:

If you have watched Stranger Things you will really enjoy this book. I felt like Lucy was Eleven from the show.

I’m not usually a si-fi type of person but I really enjoyed this book. It was a fast read simply because I was soo good. And I loved the surprise connection to Rachelle previous book The Red Rope. I didn’t see that coming at all. Love it! No worries, though. You don’t need to read that book to fully appreciate this one.

Rachelle has a unique voice and unique plots. I am a fan.

My Thoughts:

This is such an interesting time in history. This is a series that is educating me and making me ask questions about this time period and the different roles countries played in WWI.

I will say this wasn’t my favorite book I have read by Roseanna, I had a little trouble becoming fulling engaged but the more I read the more I was drawn into the story and characters.

So overall it was a good book that I enjoyed.

Hello Royal Rockstar Readers!

I’m thrilled to share To Love A Prince with you. So many of you who loved the Royal Wedding Series have asked for more royals so as I noodled over new story ideas, my thoughts drifted toward princes and princesses. What’s more romantic than a royal wedding?

This royal story, the first book in a new series, True Blue Royal, is set in a new fictional country, Lauchtenland, in the North Sea. I’m really squeezing all those oil wells currently occupying that body of water.

The beauty of royal stories is they remind us of who we really are: princes and princesses. There is always a point in the story where the royal character, as well as the commoner, must come to grips with his and her true identity! Who God says we are!

Stories are a powerful reflection of life and it’s fun to insert ourselves into the tale. While fiction employs a lot of hyperbole we can find ourselves on the page somewhere, somehow.

My thought:

Rachel Hauck really is the queen of royal romance. This was another great story. I loved how she incorporated many of her others stories into this one.

If you read the Fifth Avenue Story Society you will remember the Coral left her prince at the alter. In this book we get to meet that prince. It was really interesting to hear his side of the story. No worries if you didn’t read that book, you will still enjoy this one all on it’s own.

The faith element is pretty light in this book, at least at the beginning, and I know Coral left Gus because she found Jesus, so I was waiting for that to play into the story.

Then there is this whole prologue that really had me wondering when and how it would play into this story. Truly, there was so many elements to love about this book, you won’t be disappointed.

Heather Lawrence’s long-awaited vacation to Salzburg wasn’t supposed to go like this. My thoughts:

I used to read a lot of DiAnn’s books but I started to not really enjoy her style so I stopped. But when I saw this book come out I had to read it because of everything going on in our world today and how close to home it hit.

It really is a good idea but I still struggle with DiAnn’s writing style. I can’t even pinpoint why. I know many people love her. It think she doesn’t get into the characters mind enough. There were things the characters did that I didn’t see any motivation for in their thoughts or feelings. I guess it seemed superficial.

Even though the story was interesting, I wasn’t really surprised buy who released the virus, I got that almost immediately, yet I did read until the end, but I think if it wasn’t for living through our pandemic I might not have finished this one.
