This was a very interesting book. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and storyline and the faith of these characters woven throughout.
I had my suspicions about who was behind everything, beside the obvious suspects, and I wanted to keep reading to see if I was correct.

I am excited that this is the beginning of a series and I can read more by this author.

I wrote Legacy of Lies after watching an interview on TV of a woman whose father killed several people. I tried to put myself in her shoes. How did she cope under the weight of what her father had done? How did people treat her differently? How did her father’s decisions affect her future? From there, I had the idea to highlight a group of three siblings who were dealing with this. I’d already done another four-book series in the mountain town of Fog Lake, Tennessee, and I really loved setting those books there. I decided to revisit the area and make it the place where these three siblings had grown up—and where they had to return.
I REALLY enjoyed this book. I had no idea who was The Good Samaritan Killer. Just when I thought I had an idea something happened to make me questions that thought or rule that person out.
I have only read one other book by this author and I have to say I liked this one even better. I believe this is the beginning of a series so I am excited to read more.
If you like romantic suspense I highly recommend this read.

My thoughts:
I love Bethany Turner’s writing style, it’s fun but always has more depth then you think there will be.
McKenna is dealing with a major issues and she is so closed off from her family and keeps others away from her. She made me mad the way she treated Taylor at first.
Henry had me melting from our first meeting of him. I wondered how he would break through McKenna’s tough exterior but I believed he would somehow.

My thoughts:
This is not a Christian book. I just enjoy reading spooky books once in awhile and if I can find one that is pretty clean I consider that a win. There are a few curse words but otherwise deals with supernatural scary things that I know aren’t true but fun to read about for me.
I didn’t read the first book in this series but the author does a good job of catching the reader up on what was going on. At first I wasn’t overly interested in this book but the more I read the more the danger increased and the more invested I got in the book.
If you like scary reads with many twists and turns I am sure you will enjoy this read.

How Slashed Canvas Came to Be
It was the last evening of the SoCal Christian Writer’s Conference three years ago. A group of us decided that frozen yogurt sounded good, so we walked the few blocks from the university where the conference was being held to the local fro-yo shop.
On the way back, I was walking alongside fellow author Chautona Havig. We were chatting about various projects we had underway, and she mentioned that she and Sandy Barela from Celebrate Lit had come up with an idea for a boxed set. This involved taking a fairy-tale and turning it into a 1920s mystery. Would I be interested?
You don’t have to ask me twice if I’d like to be in a set with Chautona that’s put out by Sandy. Before I knew what was happening, I was agreeing to it. Then we got talking about what fairy tales I might use. As soon as she said The Lost Princess, an idea sparked in my brain. It really was that instant. 1920s. Princess. Russia. Exile.
This might come as a surprise to both Chautona and Sandy, but I really didn’t know the story of The Lost Princess. Not at all. When I was working up the idea, I had to read the story and figure out how to make my idea mesh with the fairy tale. Thankfully, the story did work well with what I intended to do with Slashed Canvas.
And that title? Well, that was quite difficult. At the time, my niece was staying with us and interning for me. One night, we sat and ran through idea after idea until we came up with “Something” Canvas. I wanted a strong adjective and we offered and rejected many until we came up with Slashed Canvas. I hadn’t written a word of the book, but I managed to work a slashed canvas into the story.
And what about the painting in Slashed Canvas? I knew I wanted it to be by a Russian artist and hang in the Louvre, but there weren’t (and aren’t) many paintings like that in the Louvre. Russia has been loath to allow any of its art to leave the country. So what was I going to do? I really was going crazy.
Then I spoke on the phone to Kristy Cambron. Not only is she a fabulous author, but she also has a degree in art history. It was her idea to make up my own painting. That way, I could make it work however I needed it to for the story. What a relief. I did just that, and the story flowed from there.
And the clues to the mystery? Those were my dad’s ideas. I won’t say more because I don’t want to spoil anything!
So that’s how Slashed Canvas came to be. It was the work of so many different people. Authors, much as we hide behind our computers, never work in a vacuum. Very often, there are many fingers in the pie to make the finished product.
This story has a lot of interesting things going on to hold your interest. So much mystery surrounding the events taking place. I wanted to keep reading to see what was really going on and who was behind the mystery.
I will say I had trouble connecting with the book overall. Even though the premise was interesting the style didn’t resonate with me. I have read many books by Liz and love them all but for some reason this was different for me and I can’t even put my finger on why. It was still interesting just a different style then what I am used to.
If you like a good mystery this might be a book you want to tryout. It was a quick read.

My thoughts:
Another very interesting book by Sarah. I couldn’t wait for Lucie to discover that Paul wasn’t a bad guy. I loved Josie, she was such a sweetheart but was definitely getting a bum deal with the way people perceived her dad.
The other cast of characters in this book kept things interesting as well. And just imagining what these people went through and how they had to survive the German’s taking over their country is just heartbreaking.
If you enjoy WWII books I am sure you will like this read.

When my agent asked if I had a WWII story idea that might fit in with Barbour’s Heroines of WWII series, I had to tell her I didn’t. At the time, I was writing book 4 in a series set in 1894 and proofing audio chapters for book 3 in that series. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to tackle war, but I told my agent I would think on it and pray. If the Lord wanted me to write a WWII era story, He would give me an idea. So I prayed.
I knew women had done some military flying but didn’t know the details, so I jump into some quick research. I couldn’t take too much time away from my current novel and its rapidly approaching deadline. When an idea started forming with a WASP (Women Airforce Service Pilots), I wrote a brief one-page outline of my rough idea. I knew I couldn’t take too much time away from my other project to write a whole proposal if I was going to be told the publisher already had a story in the series about a WASP, which I assumed they had. Because who wouldn’t want to write about lady pilots?
My idea about a WASP, who flies an unsanctioned secret mission to rescue three US soldiers held captive in Cuba, now needed a title. No sooner had I thought that I needed a title than one—which I thought would be nothing more than a placeholder—popped into my flakey little head: Mrs. Witherspoon Goes To War. Well, now my heroine, at least, had a last name. My critique partners seemed to like this title, so I added it to my outline and sent it off to my agent, then I got right back to work on my novel with the looming deadline.
Since the publishing industry typically moves very slow, I figured I had a good chunk of time before I would find out if I needed to write a full proposal. So back to work on my contracted novel. Surprisingly, the publisher came back immediately with strong interest in the idea and wanted a full proposal in a week. Fortunately, this editor knew my writing, so I didn’t have to include three sample chapters, but my synopsis needed to be strong in details.
So now, I had a full, detailed proposal to write with historical notes ASAP, a novel I needed to finish writing, and audio chapters to listen to and give feedback on. Bouncing between two different eras isn’t easy and to keeping things straight. With God grace, I got the proposal written and submitted, the audio chapters checked, as well as completing my contracted novel, which I managed to turn in on time. Barely.
Since the publisher seemed very interested in my WWII premise and I had book 5 in my Quilting Circle series to get started on soon, I needed to pick up the pace on my writing. With the idea still fresh in my head and the WWII novel would be due first (if contracted), I decided to use NaNoWriMo in November to write a 50,000 word rough draft of Mrs. Witherspoon Goes To War, which would eventually be around 80,000.
As November progressed and my word count grew, I fell more and more in love with my characters in Mrs. Witherspoon Goes To War. I obviously received and signed a contract. I continued to enjoy my characters as I finished writing and editing this novel.
I would have to say that Mrs. Witherspoon Goes To War is in my top five of the books I have written. My prayer is that this story ministers to others as it did to me as I wrote it.
I really enjoyed this story. I was really interesting to read what life might have been like for a WASP in WWII. They didn’t always get the respect they deserved and kind of had to fight for it. It was interesting too, that they had to remind the men to treat them the same way they would treat other men in the military.
Peggy was a strong character but also just a mom as well, which made her relatable.
Howie was a great guy who was learning what his life might look like now that he wasn’t as physically able to do what he used to do.

My thoughts:
Life in Ireland was not always easy and this book gives the reader a glimpse into what life was like a long time ago.
Stephen is a stubborn man who definitely did not want to give Anna a chance. But her kindness easily shines through and he can’t deny it.
I kept wondering as read how would they find their way to each other. Her being a courtier and him being basically a peasant. Of course I’m not going to tell you how that happens, you will have to pick up the book and read it for yourself.
Miss Harriet Hancock enjoys playing the role of eccentric heiress, using her wealth and influence to cleverly and anonymously better the lives of those in Newmarket. Though she keeps people at a distance to protect a years-old secret, when her friend pleads for help on a personal project, Harriet can’t resist.
Stable hand Jonas Fitzroy would do anything for his twin sister, even if it means seeking out the woman whose meddling ways have made him wary and suspicious. The last thing he expects is for Miss Hancock to request his help in writing a book. Intent on revealing her underlying plan, Jonas agrees.

My thoughts:
This was an interesting match. I wondered how Kristi would be able to bring these two very different people together into a romance.
I will say this wasn’t my favorite book I have read by Kristi, for some reason I just didn’t get absorb in the story like I normally would but it was still good and still well done. Just wasn’t my favorite.
It is always fun to meet up with previous characters in Kristi’s story. She has create a great cast that are all so kind to each other.
