Book: The Pages of Her Life

Award-winning and bestselling author James L. Rubart explores the way our memories shape us . . . and how they affect our beliefs.

Allison Moore has no idea why she got out of her car on that rainy March afternoon and picked up the soaked journal laying on the side of the road. Brought it home. But she did. It was empty. Except for two lines scrawled in the front, too washed out to read. And a Jesus emblem inside the back cover. Something about the journal compels her to start writing in it, capturing thoughts about her newly acquired job that she thought would be heaven, but has turned into hell. Then one day, she finds words in the center of the journal. Words she didn’t write: Mene mene tekel upharsin. After her heart stops hammering, Allison Googles the phrase, and reads the story of Belshazzar’s Feast, where a hand from God writes on the wall, and the king is slain. Fear grips her, certain God is coming after her for what she did twelve years back. What she’s done wrong her whole life. She vows to make things right. Then she discovers more phrases appearing underneath each of her journal entries. Those phrases take her on an emotional roller coaster that forces her to look at everything she believes about her past in a new light, and opens her eyes to a supernatural realm of staggering consequence.

My thoughts:

Um, yeah. This is a great book. I love James Rubart’s imagination. I have no idea how he comes up with his stories but that are all so unique and deeply spiritual. This book is definitely that.

Allison is going through some stuff as well as her family. They are trying to figure out how to function through the mess and overcome the past. This journal that Allison receives is an answer to prayer and begins to change things.

There are many other things going on in the story that will keep you reading as well. Like what is going on with this new job? Is it a mistake or is God going to do something with it?

If you like books that will get your thinking and encourage your faith I highly recommend this one.

Grab your copy at your local bookstore, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Christianbook.com or your favorite retailer.

About:

What if You Woke up One Morning and the Darkest Parts of Yourself Were Gone?

Toren Daniels vanished eight months back, and his wife and kids have moved on—with more than a little relief. Toren was a good man but carried a raging temper that often exploded without warning. So when he shows up on their doorstep out of the blue, they’re shocked to see him alive. But more shocked to see he’s changed. Radically.

His anger is gone. He’s oddly patient. Kind. Fun. The man he always wanted to be. Toren has no clue where he’s been but knows he’s been utterly transformed. He focuses on three things: Finding out where he’s been. Finding out how it happened. And winning back his family.

But then shards of his old self start to rise from deep inside—like the man kicked out of the NFL for his fury—and Toren must face the supreme battle of his life.

In this fresh take on the classic Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, James L. Rubart explores the war between the good and evil within each of us—and one man’s only chance to overcome the greatest divide of the soul.

My thoughts and giveaway:

What a deeply spiritual and moving book.

There are so many underlying meanings going on. I was probably looking too much but I couldn’t help myself.

I wondered how this relationship could ever be restored, Sloane seemed so unwilling to move. Yet, I appreciated her prayer life and how she relied on God.

I felt a lot of sympathy for Toren and wanted him to get his family back. But James kept the reader wondering and guessing if that would happen.

And then the whole mystery of what happened to Toren in the first place, where was he all those months and what happened to him?

If you are looking for something a bit different but that will move you I highly recommend this book.
