About:

Some secrets can’t stay hidden

Zoe Johnson has spent most of her life living in the shadows, never drawing attention to herself, never investing in people or places. But when a wide-eyed, bedraggled teenager with no memory walks into the diner where Zoe works, everything changes.

Against her better judgment, Zoe, who has been trying to outrun her own painful memories of the past, finds herself attempting to help a girl who doesn’t seem to have any past at all. With little warning, they must follow the only sure thing they know: a woman hundreds of miles away, will either save them . . . or be the last person to see them alive.

My Thoughts:

If you have watched Stranger Things you will really enjoy this book. I felt like Lucy was Eleven from the show.

I’m not usually a si-fi type of person but I really enjoyed this book. It was a fast read simply because I was soo good. And I loved the surprise connection to Rachelle previous book The Red Rope. I didn’t see that coming at all. Love it! No worries, though. You don’t need to read that book to fully appreciate this one.

Rachelle has a unique voice and unique plots. I am a fan.

About:

Ten years ago, Grace saw something that would forever change the course of history.

When a terrible scourge is unleashed on the world, she and others from their religious community are already hidden deep in the hills of Tennessee, abiding by every rule that will keep them safe, pure–and alive. As long as they stay there, behind the red rope.

Her older brother’s questions and the arrival of the first outsiders she’s seen in a decade set in motion events that will cause Grace to question everything she has built her life on. Enemies rise on all sides–but who is the real enemy? And what will it cost her to uncover the truth?

For the first time, bestselling authors Ted Dekker and Rachelle Dekker team up and deliver an intense, tightly focused ride through the most treacherous world of all.

In a world where the boundaries are clear and punishments severe, a young woman risks everything to break free from the system of fear and control to find freedom and love.

My thoughts and giveaway:

Not sure why I have never read anything by Ted or Rachel Dekker but I’m sure glad I finally have.

What a great book. So many questions, I had no idea what was really going on, who Grace could really trust? Who was speaking the truth or twisting it? I had my suspicions but it was convincing and I think that it the point. We have to be careful who we believe and what we believe.

There are moments of heart-pounding action, I was on the edge of my seat reading and moment of reflection, but never a dull moment.

If you like books that a bit different then I highly recommend this read.
