My thoughts:

I always enjoy Denise’s books so I was excited to read this new series.

It was a good story but I will say this wasn’t one of my favorites. I’m not really sure why it just didn’t suck me in as much as her books usually do.

I did enjoy how it deals with the wounds both characters deal with and how it affects their relationship with others.

I am interested to see who the next book will focus on and it was night to see characters from the previous series make an appearance.

Josie, the heroine in The Secret Place, faces more than one dilemma as a result of imperfect confidantes and their unkept secrets. So what inspired this story?

Many years ago, my late father-in-law suffered a traumatic brain injury and was life-flighted to a hospital 150 miles away. Family members gathered and were told to prepare for the possibility that he wouldn’t last the night. In an answer to many prayers, he made it through the night, but was in a coma, and no one knew what his future held or what long term effects his injuries would have.

His recovery was long, strange, and uncertain. In the first two weeks, he went from unconscious to incoherent to muttering. Then he progressed to forming real words, but what he said made no sense.

As his communication began to improve, his speech turned into an ongoing narrative. He talked about events and people and things long ago—including things we hadn’t heard before, things that confused and surprised family members young and old. We realized that these revelations were not simply a product of his addled brain, but in fact true. To our dismay, his social filters and verbal etiquette were gone, which made his kids and grandkids more than a little nervous. What kinds of memories and expressions would we hear from this beloved man of faith whom we all suspected had been a bit of a rascal as a youth?

My Thoughts:

Wow. This book was excellent. So good.

The family disfunction, secrets, hurt, wounds. Who can’t relate?

This book was so beautifully done, I can’t even put onto words all that is going on in this book.

Josie and Nadine’s relationship is so torn apart and the book opens with a scene were they are so close. It’s heartbreaking what has happened to them.

The ending will touch anyone who reads it. An overarching theme is the sanctity of life and how precious every life is even when it is unplanned or inconvenient. Love that.

This is a must read.

My thoughts:

Another great book by Kristi. I love how she brings in characters from her previous series as well and they are such wonderful and supportive of Aaron.

Aaron is hard nut to crack but that makes the softness you see in him even more surprising and sweet.

Sophia is a strong character and I love her spirit and spunk.

If you love historical romance I am sure you will enjoy this book.

My thoughts:

This is the first book I have read by Tea but it won’t be my last. Not only does she put together an interesting and engaging cast of characters and intricate plot. But her historical detail is amazing. She brings her locations to life as well.

There is a lot of mystery involved in this book. I just couldn’t figure out what had happened to Elizabeth, what trauma had occurred in her life that she didn’t seem to remember? And what secret was Michael hiding?

If you enjoy historical fiction I have no doubt you will enjoy this book.

Granton, Tennessee, is a town I hope you fall in love with, just as I did when I created it. There are so many delightful characters, some with a dark secret or two. This story has been brewing for a while, and I am glad that I finally have the opportunity to share it with you.

My thoughts:

I really had no idea what to expect from this book and it definitely held some surprises. The unlikability of Silas but I had hope that maybe he would have some redeeming qualities kept me hoping.

The mystery of the 14th room and the history of the house was interesting as well.

However, overall I didn’t really enjoy this book. I felt like I wasn’t sure of the time line and things didn’t always make sense when I thought something happened but then it seemed like I was wrong but I wasn’t sure were I got it wrong. This pulled me out of the story a couple of times.

This book has a lot of promise and you might enjoy it but it wasn’t for me.

My thoughts:

Okay, I will be honest, when I first started reading this book I didn’t think I would be able to get into it. But I kept going and then I couldn’t get out of it.

Wow. The picture the author paints is very raw. Even though I have read many books about WWII I never grow tired of a well done book that shows other and more perspectives. This book does this.

I was curious to see how and when Margot and Bernie’s paths would cross.

The other characters in this book was just as engaging and well developed at as our two main characters. You will come to care for them all and your heart will break with the heartache they face.

My thoughts:

This is another unique book by Nancy. I enjoyed that storyline. She deals with a cult that is on a mission. I always find these types of stories interesting. The people are so deceived.

I have a feeling I knew who was behind her aunt’s attack from the beginning but she placed a lot of doubt and have me questioning if I was right or not.

The message of Jesus’ love is woven throughout the book and even though I appreciated that I do see that our theology and doctrine differ (this would not have been the case a year ago). There is no mention of sin and our need to repent only that God love’s us, which is true but his love is so great he forgives us of our sin and this needs to be said because that makes his love even more amazing. I was disappointed that this was completely neglected.

But, aside from that, the story itself was very good and I can’t wait to see what is next in this series.

I had heard a lot about this book so I wanted to give a read and I purchased it myself. There is so much good stuff in here. The author does a wonderful job of walking the reader through Jesus’ heart for sinners and talking about Jesus’ many characteristics that we might overlook or not give much thought too. I recommend this book if wonder how does Jesus really feel about me when I sin and who doesn’t wonder that?

I chose the food industry for Laney, a woman entrepreneur succeeding against the odds, because I have lots of cooking experience. I learned the skill at age ten. The reason, according to my father—I’d know how when I got married. I didn’t marry until I was thirty. By then, I’d received lots of instruction, so I knew how to prepare some pretty good dinners. My husband said, “You could start a restaurant.” I wanted to do other things instead, such as write, but I started one in this book.

Mt first woman entrepreneur appears in Hair Calamities and Hot Cash, a romantic comedy about a hairstylist. It’s set in Eve’s Clips, a salon in Triville, a fictitious town in the North Carolina Mountains where Laney opens Laney’s Delectable Delights.

A section in the back of Cooking up a Mystery, Laney’s Chefs in the Making, features over two dozen recipes. Only Laney’s Pineapple Rice is mine. The rest are from a book, Heavenly Delights, authored by my friend, Pam Nichols Griffin, as a fundraiser for Mission Love Seeds, a charity that helps children throughout the world and responds locally after disasters to demonstrate God’s love.

Laney’s Pineapple Rice

Ingredients:

Rice (can be instant, but not boil-in-the-bag)

Cooking oil or spray

One small onion (chopped thin)

Five cloves garlic (or minced gloves equaling five cloves)

One tablespoon fresh grated ginger

One cup fresh pineapple

Small amount of pineapple juice

One teaspoon sugar

One lime

Cook rice according to directions on the box, but substitute a couple of tablespoons to 1/4 cup pineapple juice (depending on taste) for part of the water.

Chill rice

Coat a heavy bottom skillet with oil. Add the onion, garlic, ginger, pineapple and sugar and stir. Add cold rice, break up, squirt with the juice of one lime and stir until heated and blended.

My thoughts:

I loved the tea house. It reminded me of a tea store/restaurant we have in our area that my daughter and I love to go to. I am definitely making a trip there soon. And the aroma of the pot roast have be craving that as well.

I actually have mixed feelings about the story itself. There were times that I was drawn in and had to see what happened and other times things that seemed very unrealistic took place that pulled me out of the story.

I wondered why Laney questioned if Eric thought of her as more then a friend after he kissed her. That seemed like it would be obvious that yes, he does think of you as more then a friend. Sometimes Laney’s reactions seemed over the top and not how someone would really react to things.

There was a lot of good things in the book, I think it had the making of a well done book but something feel flat for me overall.

My thoughts:

This is an excellent book. This is only the second book I have read by Nicole and they both have been wonderful.

She made me love Molly so much I wanted her Instagram account to be real so I could follow her and get her fashion tips. Does someone like her exist? Nicole did such an outstanding job of writing Molly’s character, her quick and likeable wit will easily draw a reader in.

Silas is a strong male character who is everything Molly isn’t, which is what makes them perfect for each other.

I appreciated the faith that was part of the story and the characters lives.

I thought I had the ending worked out in my head but I was way off. I love when an author surprises me and Nicole certainly did that.
