I read Submerged, Dani’s first book and liked it, but not nearly as much as I enjoyed Shattered. I can definitely see her growth as a writer.

The book had me hooked at the first chapter, which is what you want. Each chapter packed a punch and had me turning the pages as fast as I could.

I like how the chapters are very short. Downton Abbey fans will appreciate that 🙂 Short chapters make me feel like I am reading faster, even though I know I’m not.

Dani also laid the ground work for future books and I can’t wait to get my hands on them and see those characters again and what will happen in their lives.

The only downside I really saw was the main female character, Piper, didn’t really have any flaws, no baggage, nothing to deal with. I enjoy flawed characters, it makes them more relatable. But I liked Piper and that missing element is easily overlooked because the rest of the book is very good.

In both books you can see a Genesis 5020 in the hurting characters lives. They use their hurts to help others.

Overall, I recommend this book. If you enjoy Dee Henderson you will enjoy Dani Pettrey.
